Vallery Kay (Horton) Bergman was born on July 10, 1952, to Neroy Delos and Edythe Lillian (Havenor) Horton in Wadena, MN. She passed away January 12, 2024, at the age of 71. Vallery grew up in Huntersville surrounded by her family that she thought the world of. She was very proud to tell you that she was the only one of the 13 kids born in Wesley Hospital. She cherished every minute of time with her mom, dad, and siblings. Even in her most recent years she loved getting together with her siblings and picking on each other. She attended Menahga High School where she graduated in 1970. Vallery was married to Gordon Bergman on October 27, 1973. There were 3 children from this union: Brian, Renee & Heidi. Vallery spent a large portion of her married years as a homemaker and working various odd jobs. Vallery worked in many different professions. Most of her jobs were in retail sales and customer service. After moving back to the Sebeka area, she worked at the Menahga Coop Grocery Store, Rife’s Stop & Shop, Straight River Engineering & Manufacturing, Marv’s Gas Station, American Legion Post 456, Oak Ridge Homes, Wadena Elks. She finally found her calling when she was moved to the “Greeter” position at Walmart. She was able to spread her smile, share stories and pick on customers as they came in. She was even pulled into the office for visiting too much! She made her final departure from Walmart in 2018. She spent many days holding babies and “coaching” kids at Heidi’s daycare which was in her house from 2012 to 2017. Vallery was always happy to see people. She loved to visit with pretty much anyone when she saw them. She was the adopted mom or grandma of many people she came in contact with. Vallery struggled with dementia and kidney disease for 3 years. She was blessed to be a resident at Providence Villa in Sebeka for the last 9 months. In that time, we realized how absolutely amazing living in a small close-knit community can be. From locals stopping in to visit her because they saw her sitting outside to the amazing staff that treated her like family and her weekly jaunts over to The Hair Company to see Jesse, she was very well loved and cared for. Vallery was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Anita, brothers: Delmar, Orlan and Harvey Vallery is survived by her children: Brian Bergman of Little Falls, Renee & Jason Miller of Sebeka and Heidi & Darin Mattson of Sebeka; her grandchildren: Bryan (Brittany) Balzum, Cody (Nicole) Miller, Shaniah (Chance) Jokela, Tanner Mattson, Chad (Cassie) Bergman, Sierra (Liam) Miller, Chyna Bergman, Ian Mattson, Otto Mattson, Chelsea Bergman and Vanessa Bergman; her great-grandchildren: Mila Balzum, Oliver Jokela, Weston Jokela, Sophia Vanburen and Tayson Jokela.
