Theodore Lawrence Rick

Theodore Lawrence “Ted” Rick, age 87, of Sebeka, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN. 

Ted was born on September 22, 1937, to Lawrence and Verna (Sedivey) on a farm near Breckenridge, MN. He grew up on a farm near Pelican Rapids, MN, and attended Pelican Rapids Schools. He met Darlene Delores Wierimaa on a blind date organized by 2 friends. They dated for about 3 years and were married on March 12, 1962, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. They lived for a year with Ted’s parents while he worked at Crane Johnson Lumber. In the spring of 1964, they moved to the Wierimaa Farm in Sebeka, MN, and bought a used mobile home where they spent their 62 years of life together.

 Ted enlisted in the National Guard from 1959 to 1966 and went to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He was also recognized for his dedicated service for over 30 years as Rockwood Township Supervisor from 1971-2001. He was a quiet, gentle, and honest man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He worked hard every day and did a lot of carpentry work for anyone that asked. He even built a lot of the furniture that he and Darlene had in their home. He was an avid outdoorsman loving to fish and hunt with his buddies, feed the birds, and watch the wildlife.

Ted’s passing will be mourned by his wife, Darlene Rick of Sebeka, MN; sister, Jean Anne Deuel of Eagle Bend, MN; brother-in-law, Richard Wierimaa of Sebeka, MN; nieces, Nancy (Bryce) Boehler, Bailey Boehler, Janet Matejka, Diane Deuel, Laurana (Dylan) Maselter, and Julie, Mary, and Kelsey Jensen; and nephews, David (Estella) Deuel, Ben (Autumn) Deuel, Theodore (Amber) Deuel, Jerry (Bev) Matejka, Mark (Holly) Jensen, Ryan (Amanda) Jensen, and Jack, Joel, and Jay Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Verna Rick; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Alma Wierimaa; sisters, Mary Lou Matejka and Alyce Jensen; brother-in-law, Edwin Wierimaa; nephews, Pete Jensen and Tom Matejka; and niece, Susan Matejka.

The family would like to thank the first responders and the ambulance crew for their quick response when help was needed, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Astera Health and Fair Oaks Lodge for their care of Ted during this time. The family would also like to thank Father Rick for Celebrating Mass, Lois Schoon for reading, the St. Hubert’s Choir and organist Marybeth Brocktahler for performing, the ladies of St. Hubert’s for fixing and serving the meal, and Wevely Funeral Home for their care and organizing of the services for Ted.

Mass of Christian Burial for Ted will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Sebeka, MN, with a time for visitation one hour before the service. Interment will take place at Bluegrass Catholic Cemetery immediately following the service.
