Robert Samuel Hoppe Jr

Robert (Bob) Samuel Hoppe, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully after a long hard battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia diseases. He was born September 4, 1943, to Irene and Robert S. Hoppe, Sr. in Minneapolis. He grew up in Bloomington, graduating from Bloomington High School in 1962. He then attended and graduated from Brown University in Minneapolis in 1963. Bob excelled at electronics and worked as an electrical engineer for high-tech companies such as Control Data, Seagate, and Honeywell. He was a ferocious saver and was able to retire at the age of 57. He married Janice Decker in 1964. They were married for 14 years and had two sons, Robert (Bob), and Thomas (Tom). In 1983, he married Patsy (Patty) Anderson and the couple enjoyed 40 years and many many adventures together. Bob had a great sense of humor and loved to tease – everyone. He enjoyed his friends and family, especially while singing bluegrass songs around the campfire. He particularly enjoyed fishing trips to Canada fishing with his best buddies, Tom, and Don. Card games would be played until the wee hours of the morning, sometimes with the cards being burned if someone won too many games and the winner being awarded the golden horseshoe under his chair. He loved to tinker and built handmade fishing lures along with intricate grandfather clocks, and banjos. Bob had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, camping, banjo playing, bluegrass music, WWII airplanes, and riding his Harley Davidson. He was a pet lover and had many cats and dogs throughout his years and loved them all. He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy, sons, Bob (Robin) Hoppe, Tom (Jenny) Hoppe, grandchildren, Zac, Shelby, Jacob, and Joey Hoppe, step-grandchildren, Dylan, and Debbie Gilster, and great-grandchildren, Braxton, and Violette, sisters, Ann (Paul) Parker of Lenexa, KS, and Beth (Bert) Peterson of Lonsdale, MN, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert, and Irene. A private family gathering is being planned for a later date.
