Olga Annette (Goedel) Schwartz was born April 20, 1929 at home in Wadena Township, Wadena Minnesota; to parents Carl W. and Lorna H. L. (Feyerherm) Goedel. She was called into the arms of her Loving Savior on July 22, 2021 in Menahga, MN at the age of 92 years. She was united in marriage to William (Billy) Bernard Schwartz, Jr. on June 14, 1947. To this union eight children were born. Olga and Billy raised their family and operated a dairy farm in rural Sebeka, MN. After selling the farm they built a retirement home near Sebeka. Throughout the years they enjoyed traveling and snowmobiling. For them both, keeping in touch with family and friends was a priority and a pleasure. Sending cards along with words of love and encouragement was very important to her, so much so, that each year Olga would transfer, by hand, the birthdates and anniversaries of those she loved to the new year calendar. Olga was an artist at heart, she loved to paint. She painted dozens of eggs, each egg revealing her special talent and her love of nature. She gave away many of her painted eggs; her eggs have found homes throughout the United States and as far as Germany. She painted many pumpkins for the church bazaar. Carefully choosing a unique expression for each one. Rocks were another canvas for her talent, she created everything from farm animals to safari animals. Always busy, she sewed clothes, including coats, for her growing family. Even making snowmobile suits, with knitted cuffs, for Billy and herself. She knit and crocheted many scarfs, mittens, baby blankets and afghans. Olga also used her artistic talent to create beautifully decorated wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. Many nieces and nephews celebrated their birthdays with an Aunt Olga original animal shaped cake. Her Swedish Soda bread was a favorite, with her baking homemade bread up until January of this year. She could write down a limerick with speed; Such a talent was great, all agreed. To capture one’s essence with rhyme in a sentence, God gave her that quick wit indeed. Olga believed that nature is God’s handiwork. Being in nature made her feel rejuvenated. Her summer survival kit included a tackle box, rod and reel, and a life jacket. Having a fully equipped tackle box right in the trunk meant she was prepared to fish whenever she got the opportunity. Many hours were spent riding in the side-by-side on the buckwoods trails. Frequent stops were made so she could marvel at the beauty of the intricate designs of the woodland flowers and take in the fragrance of the blossoming milkweed. She was always up for taking a ride, whether it was in the side by side, the boat or a trip to town. While at the sugar shack in April of this year, she enjoyed a side-by-side ride with a grandson as chauffeur. Olga was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN, as well as, a lifetime member of the Sebeka American Legion Auxiliary and the Wadena VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a member of a local Homemakers group, eager to enjoy fellowship and the opportunity to learn something new.
