Marcella Geneva Shore

August 11, 1922 — June 14, 2023

Marcella Geneva Shore, was born on August 11, 1922 to John and Marie (Engstrom) Brockopp in Newfolden, MN. Shortly after the birth of her sister, Gladys in 1926, her father sold the farm near Newfolden and purchased a brand new 1926 Model A Ford and moved the family to their new farm in Philbrook, MN. Everything they owned was packed into that Model A, everything else had been sold on a sale before moving. Marcella attended grade school at Staples, MN. Her father removed her from school after she completed the 8th grade to help work the farm. She loved school and wanted to finish high school, but she did not get a choice, farm work was more important to her father. In 1943 she met and fell in love with Glen Shore. They were married in Park Rapids, MN on November 17, 1943. They lived in the Nimrod area for a short while and in July of 1944 they moved back to Glen’s folks’ farm at Ipswich, SD. Glen was drafted into the Army on November 12, 1944. At that time Marcella was two months pregnant with Elsie. In December of 1944, Marcella moved back to her folks’ farm in Philbrook. She stayed there until the spring of 1946 when she moved back to Ipswich and stayed with Glen’s folks while waiting for Glen to come from the service in July 1946. While living in Ipswich, their second girl, Delores was born in July of 1947. In the spring of 1948 they moved back to the Nimrod area where they lived in several different places, renting homes from the locals. In June of 1952, a son, Kenny was born. Glen worked wherever he could get a job and in 1954 they purchased a farm one mile north of Nimrod. Finally, they had their own home! They milked cows, raised pigs and both Glen and Marcella worked out. Marcella worked at the Badoura State Forest Nursery for many years, all while farming and raising pigs. She did well enough to buy herself a brand new car from the pig money. She always kept a nice garden and canned vegies and meat. She also baked about the best pies a person could ever eat. She loved going to dances, playing cards with friends and going to church on Sunday. She was very active in the Nimrod Lutheran Church. But most of all, she loved being with her family. Marcella Geneva Shore passed away peacefully on June14, 2023 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, Minnesota with her family present and holding her hands as she transitioned into her new life with Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen, and son Kenny. She is survived by her daughters, Elsie (Jim) Childers, and Delores Shore; grandchildren Bobby (Janel) Downer and Lyle Downer, Laureen (Rodney) Huttunen, and Clint Childers (Kristin); great-grandchildren Cody and Courtney Huttunen, Lindsey (Taylor) Ericksrud, Faith Downer, Jasmin and Gavin Downer, Chase and Crosby Childers; and great-great granddaughter Wrenlee Ericksrud; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family sincerely thanks the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home and all of their staff for their outstanding and loving care these past few years of her life, also a big thanks to the St. Joseph’s Hospice Care of Park Rapids for their compassionate care these past few weeks.
