Larry Dean Gilster

Larry Dean Gilster, 73, of Nimrod, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at home with his loving family. Larry was born October 31, 1946 on his family’s farm in Orton Township, to Alfred and Evelyn (Nohrenberg) Gilster. He attended Country School Dist. 21-2 and Sebeka Public School, where in graduated in 1964. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars and family. Larry enlisted in the Army on Sept. 3, 1964 and served for over 3 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ann McCormick on September 30, 1967. The couple made their home in Nimrod where they raised their three children, Terry, Dean and Hollie. Larry owned and operated Larry’s Auto Service for many years, repairing anything from a lawnmower to heavy equipment. He was a man of many hats and trades. Once retired, Larry continued to work for his friend Russ, as well as projects for friends and neighbors. Larry served as a worthy grand patron in the Park Rapids Masonic Shell #184. He was a strong community leader, serving as mayor of Nimrod for 30+ years. Larry is survived by sister: Doreen Sycks; his children: Terry (Deb) Gilster, Dean (Cindy) Gilster, and Hollie (Ryan) Eastlund; five grandchildren: Anthony (Makayla) Gilster, Dylan Gilster, Alyssa Gilster, Debbie Gilster (Dakota Hagen), and Ericka Eastlund; five step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren: Casyn and Arayah Gilster, and Violette Hagen. He was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy; brother: Harold Gilster; parents: Alfred and Evelyn Gilster; father-in-law, Dorn McCormick; brother-in-law: Chum Sycks; and daughter-in-law, Christine Gilster. A private memorial service will be held and an inurnment will take place at the Nimrod Cemetery. Friends may send condolences in care of Hollie Eastlund, Sebeka.
