Surrounded by his three children and his loving wife, Gary Weyer passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Fargo Sanford Medical Center, at the age of 76 years. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga, MN on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of his life will follow in the Church Hall – please bring a story about G.W. to share and we invite you to wear a flannel or plaid shirt and jeans, Gary’s favorite clothing choice. Gary Allan Weyer was born on August 1, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN, the first of six children of Robert and Marjorie Weyer. He grew up in Richfield, MN attending St. Peter’s Catholic School and graduating from Richfield High School in 1964. He was a member of the 1963 Richfield State Championship Football Team; Gary went on to attend Moorhead State where he was a member of the football and track teams for 2 years. While attending Moorhead State he entered the U.S. Army from 1969-1971, serving in Vietnam for over a year. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and went back to finish his degree graduating from Moorhead State in 1973 with a teaching license for Physical Education, Health and Driver’s Education as well as coaching. From 1981-1983 he attended Bemidji State to obtain an additional certification in Industrial Education. On a spring day in 1982 he participated in a 10K race at BSU where he met the love of his life – Jean Fulton. They were married on September 17, 1983 in Bemidji, MN and spent 39 years as husband and wife. During this time, Gary taught for 7 years in Onida, SD and then in Menahga for the next 22 years. He loved teaching and coaching but some other jobs he held in his life were: swimming instructor and lifeguard, canoe guide in the BWCA, Brigade Leader for MN Outward Bound, and Menahga VFW Post #6206 Color Guard member. Gary is survived by his wife, Jean Fulton Weyer and his three amazing children: Brielle (Phil) Carlson of Grand Rapids, MN, Seth (Laura) Weyer of Kemmerer, WY and Delanie Weyer of Salt Lake City, UT. He left behind his 3 grandchildren; Jeremiah, Aria and Zaley as well as his siblings – Scott, Steve, Ruth, and Jean. His brother Danny and his parents, Bob and Marjorie went onto Heaven before him. Gary loved hearing about the lives of his nephews and nieces and many people that enriched his life along the way.
