Elma Stephanie Impola, 94, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Providence Villa Assisted Living Home in Sebeka, MN. Elma was born June 13, 1926 at Astoria, Oregon to Hjalmar and Fredrika (Kummala) Kandoll. She grew up and attended school in Rosburg, WA. Elma was united in marriage to Albert Emil Impola on September 12, 1950 in Rosburg, WA. They lived in Cathlamet, WA until 1955, then moved to South Bessemer, MI residing there until 1960. They lived in both Washington and Ironwood, MI throughout the years of raising their family of nine children. In 1983, they moved from Lynnwood, WA to rural Menahga, MN where they raised strawberries and raspberries and later settled into retirement. Elma was a woman of Godly principles; a tender, loving wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great- great grandmother. She used her God-given gifts and talents to serve both the church and communities alongside the care of homemaking and family life. Elma was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. She played the piano and was a church organist most all her life. Her employment included kitchen work at Grandview Hospital, MI; cook at Lynnwood Manor Nursing Home, WA; baker at Smokey Hills Restaurant, MN; office and house cleaning, MN. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, beauty and color in fabrics, making rugs on a loom, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Her many interests were music, reading, writing letters, conversations, scrabble and listening to sermons and programs on the radio. Elma is survived by three sons, David(Karen) of Marysville, WA, Paul (Esther) of Sebeka, MN, James (Linda) of Ironwood, MI; four daughters, Lola (Victor) Aho of Menahga, MN, Elaine Impola of Hiawatha, IA, Sharon (Bruce) Estola of Ironwood, MI, and Carol Snelling of Park Rapids, MN; 54 grandchildren; 187 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; one sister, Toini Seppanen of Lake Norden, SD; and many nephews, nieces and friends. Elma was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Impola, two daughters, Lois and Sara, one son-in-law, John Snelling; four grandchildren, Angela, Sonny, Emelia, and Greg: five great great grandchildren, Asiah, Skyler, Camri, Graham, and Adam; her parents; five brothers, John, Gust, Wiljo, Roy and Theodore; and one sister, Elsie Wirkkala. Visitation will be held from 6-9 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021at Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church, Rural Wolf Lake, MN and continue one hour prior to the service. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church, rural Wolf Lake, MN. Interment will be at Balmi Cemetery Rural Wolf Lake.
