Eleanor June Huwe, age 91, of Spruce Grove Township, died Thursday, April 11, 2019. Eleanor was born June 7, 1927 to Christian and Mabel (Erickson) Tangen in Perham, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran. She attended and graduated from District #75 grade school, Frazee High School, and Moorhead State College. In 1955 she married Arnold Huwe. They made their home in Bloomington, MN, where they raised their three children. In 1981 they returned to Eleanor’s family farm in Spruce Grove Township. Eleanor was active in her churches – Bloomington Lutheran, Christ Lutheran, and Bethany Lutheran. Some of her contributions included 27 years of Sunday school teaching – at Bloomington and Christ Lutheran, serving two terms on the Bethany Council, and treasurer of WELCA for 10 years. Two favorite projects were work on the township and church Centennial Books. The most uplifting experience of her life was participating in a huge anti-Iraq War rally in Washington DC on Inauguration Day in 2005. Eleanor is survived by her children: Rand (wife Diane Kohl), Janice (husband Tom Bedore), and Jean (husband Leo Cotton); 4 grandchildren, Jill Erzar (husband Matt), Jacob Huwe (wife Arphaporn), Erik Johnson, and Kathryn Johnson; two brothers, Arnold (wife Marlene) and Duane (wife Karen). She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Eugene, Delbert, and Dolores. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 22, at 11:30 AM, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Pastor Steve Bruer officiating. Visitation will begin 2 hours prior to the service, with lunch to follow. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home.
