Donald Horace Petersen

Donald Horace Petersen, age 92, of Sebeka, MN, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his home.

Donald was born on April 4, 1932, in Wadena, MN, the son of the late Carl and Adeline (Priebe) Petersen. He was raised in Sebeka, MN, and attended District #49 Country School. Afterwards, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Newfoundland for 2 years. During his enlistment he received training for vehicle mechanics and later for heavy equipment operation in Charlette NC. When his enlistment ended, he returned to Sebeka and worked at Erie Mining Company in Hoyt Lakes as a mechanic for 30 years, retiring in February of 1988. He was also a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN.

Donald was married to Mary Monroe on March 14, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Sebeka and had 3 children, Kathy, Ron, and Tom.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Petersen; daughter, Kathy (Joe) Christian; sons, Ron (Tebra), and Tom Petersen; grandchildren, Ben (Raina) Christian, Josh (Eryn) Christian, and Jeremy (Sophie) Ramler; step-grandchildren, Jessica Bryant and Melissa (Russell) Lackey; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Christian; step-great-grandchildren, Emmanuel Gentsch, Madyson Bryant, and Sebastian and Irie Lahr; and sister, Phyllis Miller; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Rentmeester; and brothers-in-law, Glen Miller and Ken Rentmeester.

A funeral service for Donald will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm, with a time for visitation one hour before. Interment will be immediately following the service at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
