Dennis Benson, age 74, of rural Nimrod, Minnesota passed away May 3, 2021 at his farm. He was born on December 20, 1946 in Wadena, Minnesota, to Alvin and Marie Benson. Denny grew up with eight siblings on the family farm south of Nimrod. He attended school at District 31N and the Sebeka Public School until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he proudly served for three years. After his time of service, Denny attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN, receiving a degree in auto body and began working for Huber Motors in Wadena. Later he joined the 49er’s and became a heavy equipment operator working mainly in the Twin Cities Area. In the spring of 1972 Denny purchased his family farm and promptly started dairy farming. On May 6, 1972 he married Nancy Hotakainen at the Nimrod Lutheran Church. In the years following they raised hogs and sheep and presently have a black angus herd. They spent 49 years together working side by side raising their two children, growing their family farm and making an exceptional life together. He would regularly say how very blessed he was with an amazing life on the farm in such a beautiful part of the country. One of his greatest accomplishments was in all the buildings that he built from the trees on the farm. Denny could often be found out in the garage working on his present project. He welcomed the interruptions of family, friends and neighbors with a warm smile, a helping hand and a “pay it forward” personality. Denny is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Greg and Shelly, their daughters, Cadence and Sophia; his daughter, Joni and Brett Dailey, their children, Connor, Kendra and Alexa; his sister, Gloria (Darrell) Lake; his brother, Gary (Ann) Benson, many nieces, nephews and friends.
