David Gene Weappa

David Gene Weappa was born on June 23rd 1957 to Richard & Betty (nee Stephenson) Weappa in Wadena Mn. David passed away unexpectedly on December 29th, 2023, due to complications during surgery in Fargo ND. David, whom our Dad called Davey (unless in trouble) lived his entire life on the family farm Northwest of Sebeka. He attended school in Sebeka, graduating in 1975. He helped his parents farm and spent many hours in the field or in the barn milking. He never married or had children, but he was the favorite Uncle Dave. The Uncle who would show the nieces and nephews the barn and cows and help them learn how to drive tractor. If you knew Dave, you know he loved to visit and tell stories. Although he didn’t leave the farm often to travel, he did take a few trips with his sister Janet. On those trips he was the best navigator and when they stopped to get gas or stay for the night Janet would always find him visiting with the other travelers. Dave would be telling them stories of the farm in Minnesota and listening to them tell their stories of where they were from. He would remember the stories and repeat them to Janet as they traveled on. Dave was the best person to go on Sunday drives around the countryside. He would know where everyone lived and would point out each place and tell us who lived there now and who lived there in the past. Then if there was a story or two he remembered about the person we would hear those too. Dave loved it when friends and family stopped by the farm to visit. He especially loved it when they would sit and have a beer with him. Davey will be missed. David is survived by his brothers Dick Weappa and Russ (Karen) Weappa Sebeka, Steve (Mary) Weappa Menahga and sisters Susan Norwood -Rowlett TX and Janet (Todd) Eckman Sebeka. Nieces Jill (Troy) Leesburg, Alicia (Justin) Ahrendt, Callie (Jesse) Olson & Nephews Jeff Weappa, Joe Weappa, Chris (Carrie) Norwood, Brian (Jamie) Weappa, Mike (Jen) Weappa, Matt Weappa, Jason (Jodie) Weappa, Brad (Jen) Weappa, and Sam (Madi) Eckman, Aunt’s Connie (Steve) Bennett CeCie (Ken) Doud and many great nieces and nephews, and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Richard & Betty, Grandparents Bill & Ellen Weappa, Omar & Flora Stephenson, brother-in-law Jerry Grooms. A memory day will be held later this year with a gathering at the farm. We will look to share memories and probably some beer to celebrate Davey’s life.
