David Andrew Karkinen

David Andrew Karkinen passed away on Saturday, May 18th, 2024 with his family at his side. He was born to Harold and Betty Karkinen on July 11, 1960. When David was young man he was always seen with his cousin Larry and they were very active helping on the Farm, driving tractor (where he designed his own “elevator” to get into the driver’s seat). He was very innovative from designing foot pedals on his three-wheeler so he could drive with his buddies to other adaptive equipment to allow him to do daily tasks. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1979; due to his differing abilities he was able to participate in programs from the Courage Center where he gained the confidence to live independently. He was very proud to be able to take care of his own affairs. David moved to the Minneapolis area where he gained many friends and mastered the art of driving in the metro area. David always had great interest in all aspects of Space, from airplanes, rockets, the activities of space exploration. He flew his own drones, built and flew his own model airplanes and rockets. David is survived by his brother Robert of Fergus Falls, his sister Deb Leitheiser (John) of Detroit Lakes, a niece Tammie Jenson (Marty, Chantel, Tara, Kendra) of Detroit Lakes, many cousins and other relatives. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2024 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Alajoki Cemetery.
