Audrey Mae Samuelson

Audrey Mae (Savela) Samuelson, age 85, of Menahga, MN was called to rest March 25, 2020 at Rose Haven Assisted Living in Menahga. Audrey was born to Edward and Hilda (Salo) Savela on August 29, 1934 in Blowers Township in Ottertail County, near Sebeka, MN. Audrey attended Haycreek country school and graduated from Sebeka High School in 1952. Audrey was united in marriage to Harry Samuelson on July 9, 1955 in Sebeka. They were married for 63 years. They first lived on the Samuelson family farm near Sebeka. In 1957 they moved to Virginia, MN where Audrey worked as a secretary. They lived there until 1978 when they moved to Menahga and built a home on Twin Lakes. Audrey was then employed by Social Services in Park Rapids. In 1987 they sold their lake home and moved into Menahga. There Harry transformed their yard into beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and Audrey would can and freeze their harvest. Audrey also enjoyed handiwork. Audrey was a member of the Laestadian Lutheran Church of Menahga. Faith and their church family was very important to them. They volunteered countless hours of their time in beautifying the grounds and making sure things ran smoothly. The craft sale was always well stocked with Audrey’s crocheted kitchen towels. During the building of the current church, Audrey made sure the men always had their coffee and goodies. She was fondly referred to as the “Church Mom.” Although they had no children of their own, they touched many lives and were special friends to many. Their home was always warm and welcoming. They enjoyed entertaining. Audrey always set the table for their guests to enjoy their coffee and goodies. They were generous, freely sharing and giving to others. Audrey and Harry rarely went anywhere without each other. In later years when Harry was no longer able to drive, she drove and he rode. They had a full and happy life and now they are together again. Audrey is survived by her sister Mildred Siltala, sisters-in-law Shirley Savela and Laura Savela, and many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, brothers Harley, Roland, Raymond, and sister Melba (Herbert) Niska. Memorial and Graveside Services will be at a later date.
