Raymond Rudolph Jarvi

November 3, 1928 — September 27, 2019

Raymond Rudolph Jarvi passed away peacefully September 27, 2019, with family by his side. Raymond was born November 3rd, 1928 to Johann Anton and Fannie (Kovala) Jarvi of Cokato MN. Growing up Rays fondest memories were from the home farm on Cokato Lake. He completed his schooling and graduated from 8th grade at District 117 Temperance Corner, north of Cokato. Ray attended church and was confirmed from the Cokato Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church. Ray was drafted into the US Army on March 18th, 1951 and served proudly until February 28, 1953. While stationed in Germany he attended NCO Academy. When he was honorably discharged he held the rank of Staff Sergeant. In the fall of 1956, he met the love of his life, Maria Magdalene Nevala, while attending a church youth gathering in Cokato. Raymond and Maria were united in marriage April 20, 1957, at Runeberg Church, Menahga Minnesota. They made their first home in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was employed by Munsingwear, until the fall of 1972. Purchasing his wife’s family farm, they then relocated their family to Sebeka, Minnesota. There they raised their children with dignity, love, and respect. Ray enjoyed the time spent with his nephews and nieces and would mention to other visitors how nice it was that they had stopped by to spend time with him and Maria. Ray worked at Renneberg Lumber, farmed and milked cows until he retired in 1990. Ray enjoyed his retirement with Maria, attending church and church activities until health issues limited them to being homebound and listening online with the occasional home service in their home. Ray served faithfully on the Westside Church Board from 1973-1997. Ray and Maria also did some traveling, but mainly spent time with his family, grandchildren, and friends.  Preceding Ray in death were his parents Johann and Fannie Jarvi; sisters Elma(Donald) Rice, Elsie Jarvi, Martha(Alvin) Miller and Verna(Eugene) Tormanen; brothers Walter, Reino “Ed”, Willard(Carol) and Paul(Eva); son Lawrence; and granddaughter Mikaela.H He is survived by Maria, his loving wife of 62 years, his sons Daniel (Joy) of Sebeka, Peter (Janelle) of Menahga, Mark (LaRina) of Sebeka, grandchildren Tyler (Jessica), Meagan, Madison, Raegan, Anton, Mason and Lars, an expected great-grandson, and many brothers and sisters in Faith.
