Marie Irene Wortiska

Marie Irene (McDermeit) Wortiska age 67 of Wadena, MN formerly of Menahga, MN died on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St Cloud, MN. Marie was born on March 6, 1950 to Charley and Carol (Pederson) McDermeit in Park Rapids, MN. She was raised and lived most of her life in the rural Menahga Area. In 1968 Marie graduated from Menahga High School. Marie was a caregiver; she cared for Jacob and Niemann families cooking, baking and cleaning house until she took a job working at the Park Rapids Nursing Home. Marie was an active member of First English Lutheran Church in Menahga where she was Baptized and Confirmed. She was also a circle member. Marie was united in Marriage to Milton Wortiska on May 24, 1980 they lived in Algoma, Wisconsin until the fall of 1989 when they moved back to Menahga, MN. Most recently Marie lived in Fair Oaks Lodge and Assistant Living. Marie loved church, doing any kind of crafts, puzzles, growing up on a farm, she especially enjoyed caring for the chickens. Marie also liked to write letters and over the years had many pen pals. Marie is survived by her sister, Irene Chandler of Menahga, MN; three aunts, Jan Pederson of Menahga, MN; Diane Pederson of Menahga, MN; and Anne Pederson of Little Falls, MN, many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Carol (Pederson) McDermeit, two brothers, Edward McDermeit and Clarence McDermeit and husband Milton Wortiska, three uncles Ralph Pederson, Gordon Pederson and Herbert Pederson. Memorial Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Sebeka United Methodist Church in Sebeka, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Menahga City Cemetery at a later date.
