Jerome Harold Schermerhorn, age 88, of Nimrod, MN died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at his home. Jerome was born to Hubert and Hulda (Nelson) Schermerhorn on October 4, 1928 in Wadena, MN. He grew up and attended school near Nimrod and graduated from Sebeka with the class of 1945. Jerome proudly served his country in the United State Army 82nd Airborne with occupation forces in Japan. Following his Honorable Discharge he worked a short time in Milwaukee Wisconsin, where he contracted T.B. and was sent to Shady Lane in Wadena. During his illness Jerome met and married the love of his life Amy Hepola. He often remarked “I’m one of few men to see my wife in her pajamas before we married.” They lived near Nimrod most of their life, where they farmed turkeys. Jerome served on the West Central Telephone Association Board, worked in the woods and on the missile sites in North Dakota. Jerome was a caregiver to his wife Amy, cancer survivor and avid baseball fan. Jerome is survived by four sons: David (Cindy) Darwin (Theresa) Mark and Alan, sister, Madelyn Siemsen; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Melanie, Levi, Jason, Alan, Lucy, Katy and Sam and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Amy, parents, one brother, two sisters and a daughter-in-law. Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday February 5, 2017 at Nimrod Lutheran Church in Nimrod with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
