Walter David Schulz

Walter David Schulz was born March 25, 1940 in North Germany Township. He was the son of William and Frieda (Brockopp) Schulz. He grew up on the family farm and attended school District #49, graduating from Sebeka High School in 1958. After working odd jobs he joined the Army National Guard in 1962. He married Shirley (Goble) on September 29, 1969. As a true American he spent his life serving the Army National Guard and served as the Executive Director for 12 years. Walter and Shirley enjoyed seeing much of the United States as they hosted many conventions. During his time in the military, Walter received the Army Reserve Component Achievement Meda, (7 awards), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (3 awards), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious, Arng Basic Recruiter Badge, and Sharpshooter Qualification Badge. After 38 years of proudly wearing a uniform he received an honorable discharged at the rank of CW4. He was appointed to Brevet Chief Warrant Officer by Governor Tim Pawlenty and Adjutant General Larry Shellito on the December 7, 2007. He was a lifelong member of Sebeka American Legion Post #456 where he served two terms as commander. He was a member of Park Rapids Antique Tractor Club and a member of New England Prairie Days. He was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, enjoyed fellowship and served as treasurer, for many years until time of his death. He was preceded in death by parents William and Frieda Schulz, and sisters: Pearl, Alice and Grace. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 47 years; children: Audra (Jason), Tasha, Farrah, Mitchell (Sara), Virgil (Deanne) and Beverly; grandchildren: Gabrielle, Samantha, Madison, Ryan, Sheena, LaShawn, Kristopher and Jeffrey; seven great-grandchildren, sister Inez (Stan) Campbell, and brother William (Jerry) Schulz, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 2 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sebeka. Interment will be held at Zion Cemetery.
