Dorothy Fern Kiser

Dorothy Fern (Russell) Kiser, of Sebeka, MN died peacefully Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the age of 90 years 4 months and 8 days, Dorothy was born June 8, 1926 in Dickey, ND to Orval and Lela (Hope) Russell. At the age of one she moved with her parents to Barnard, MO. attended various country schools from the 1st to 8th grade. From the 9th to 12th grade she attended Horace Mann High School at Maryville, MO and graduated in 1944. At the age of 19 Dorothy moved to Valley City, ND where she worked as a waitress and met Wayne Kiser. On January 1st, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wayne M. Kiser and this union was blessed with five children. They lived and farmed by Valley City. On October 15, 1955 they moved to Sebeka where they continued to farm and Dorothy was a homemaker. In 1973 Dorothy started working as a cook at Sebeka Public School until her retirement in May of 1988. In 1988 they also sold the farm and moved to the Hill Top apartments where she resided until November of 2014. She then moved to the Heritage House and remained there until the time of her death. Dorothy was an active member of the Bethany Free Lutheran Church of Blue Grass and of the Sebeka Senior Citizens Dorothy is survived by her children Jack (Mary) Kiser of Elk River, MN; Susan Erdahl-Nelson (Steve) of Donnelly, MN; Carl Kiser and friend Pam of Sebeka, MN; and daughter-in-law Nara Kiser of Bangkok, Thailand; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Darrel Russell of Redondo Beach, CA; Dale Russell of Missoula, MT; 5 sisters, Donna Burgau of Cloquet, MN; Kay Sorenson of Valley City; ND; Evalene Lee of Forrest Lake, MN; Rita Jordhiem of McLeod, ND; and Joyce Elliff of Rogue River, OR; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Lela Russell, husband, Wayne Kiser, infant daughter, June, son, Kenneth, brother, Don Russell and sister, Rosalie Olufson. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one hour prior to the service at the church. Prayer Services will be held at 4:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 21, 2016 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN. Interment will be at Sebeka West Cemetery.
