Darlene Lois Steinke

While surrounded by family, Darlene Lois (Nohrenberg) Steinke, age 86, of Verndale, MN graduated into Heaven on October 10, 2015 Darlene was born May 12, 1929 to Edward and Helen (Riediger) Nohrenberg. She grew up on a farm in North Germany Township with her parents, sisters Lucille and Marjorie, and brother, Manford. Darlene attended country school through eighth grade, and although never attended high school as she had hoped, was proud to earn her GED later in life. She was united in marriage on October 20, 1946 to Arnold Steinke in a small ceremony in Sebeka. Arnold and Darlene raised five children, Gloria, Carol, Darrell, Donald, and Jeffrey. They also raised two of their grandchildren, Trevor and Amy, after the death of their daughter, Gloria. They made their home on the farm east of Sebeka and took great pride in the simple life it provided. Darlene was a devoted and proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She spent 24 years as a cook at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. While there she was renowned for her delicious cookies and treats. At home, she always kept her hands busy with hobbies such as; cooking, crochet, sewing, and counted cross-stitch. She was sure to share her countless creations of quilts, towels, angels, and custom cakes for everyone’s birthday or special occasion. When she wasn’t busy working or making things, you could always talk her into a good cup of coffee and a game of cards. She was happiest when spending time with the ones she loved most. Darlene will always be admired and loved by all of her family and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her sons, Darrell (Betty), Donald (Maxine), and Jeff (Karie). She also has 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-children. Her husband, Arnold; parents, Edward and Helen; daughters Gloria and Carol; sisters, Lucille and Marjorie, and brother Manford preceded her in death. Visitation will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 between 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00pm at the United Methodist Church in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Steve Koehne officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Trevor, Darren, Peter, Corey, Adam, Joshua, Jason, and Dave. Honorary Pallbearers are all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
