Kathlyn "Katie" Delores Staat

Kathlyn D. Staat, 95 years old, of Menahga, MN died, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home Menahga with family by her side, after a long illness. Kathlyn was born April 7, 1920 in Becker County, Minnesota to Albert and Alma Grangruth (Kotka). She spent her early years in Menahga, MN where she met her sweetheart, Arnold Staat and they were married on March 15, 1940. They had four children, three sons and one daughter, named William Albert, Larry Arnold, Patricia Kay, and Stephen Dirk Staat. Kathlyn (Katie as she was known) spent the years of early marriage, raising her family along with her husband Arnold. As a family, they moved from Minnesota to South Dakota, California, and Arizona. Katie, when her children were grown, worked at Feather River Hospital in Paradise, CA in the Physiotherapy Department. She also worked in a several nursing homes in Paradise, CA, providing care to the elderly, which she loved to do. Katie was a member of the Menahga United Methodist Church and attended the United Methodist Women's group regularly. She was a wonderful baker and she loved to craft and used both of these talents to help the United Methodist Women earn money at their bake and craft sales with the proceeds going to missions. She made the best "mojakka" at two of Menahga's midsummer luncheons and she was noted to have the best recipe! She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family, sons William (Susan), Stephen and only daughter, Patricia (Lonnie), grandsons Troy (Kelly) and J.P. (Julie), granddaughters Tanya (Mike) and Brianna (Adam); great-grandchildren, Cassie, Matt, Brian, Mason, Chloe, Gage, Ryker, Lexi, and Brooke and one great great-grandchild Aiden. Katie is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Arnold, parents, Albert and Alma Grangruth, two brothers, Olavi and Jim, son Larry and two grandchildren Sean and Dawn. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Menahga United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Koehne officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Alajoki Cemetery.
