Ebert Leo Simi

Ebert Leo Simi, age 78, died on Thursday January 1st 2015, at Green Pine Acres nursing home in Menahga, MN. Ebert was born on July 24, 1936, to Eino and Lillian (Ollila) Simi, of Menahga, MN. He attended country school up to the 8th grade. As a young man he met Sharon Samuelson and they were married on February 20th, 1959. With this union they were blessed with 4 children. Ebert and Sharon made their home in Osseo, MN where Ebert worked for many years doing sewer and water construction in the Twin Cities. In 1969 Ebert moved himself and his family back to Menahga but continued to commute back and forth to his job in Twin Cities. Later in life Ebert left his job in the Cities and started a new job that was closer to home. Park Region Aggregate out of Park Rapids, MN was where he remained employed until the year 2000 when he retired. Ebert lost the love of his life, Sharon, in 1999 after 40 years of marriage but continued to go on and make the best of his life. Ebert was always on the go and even after retirement he held a part time job at Ortons in Menahga taking care of the car wash. Throughout his life, Ebert loved to hunt, fish, trap and garden. His specialty, smoked fish, was something his friends and family looked forward to throughout the years. He also loved to visit and spend time with family, friends and many grandchildren/great grandchildren, which were the light of his life. In the past year Ebert was diagnosed with lung cancer and remained ever hopeful that he would over come the disease but it was not meant to be. He will be forever remembered with love by his family; son Aaron (Brenda) Simi of Menahga; daughter Rebecca (Craig) Shore of Menahga; son Jordan (Paula) Simi of Menahga; daughter Andrea (Brian) Craig of Menahga; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Elaine Haataja of Menahga; Gladys (Dean) Swanson from Arizona. Ebert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, wife Sharon, brother-in-law Wendy Haataja and great granddaughter T'Leigha. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN with Pastor Steven A. Bruer officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Meadow Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
