Doris Marie Sellin, 81, of Sebeka, Minnesota was called home to rest on November 19, 2014 at the Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota with her family at her side. Doris was born on March 16, 1933 to Colonel Henry Funkley and Esther Usher in Bemidji and attended country school in Hines. She spent most of her working years in the food industry and supplying the surrounding area bait shops with angleworms. Doris was a proud and dedicated member of the Riders of the Crow Wing Saddle Club. She looked forward to the Nimrod horse shows where she would proudly tend the entrance gate. Doris also was a 4-H leader for the Tall Pines Riders, was a blue ribbon winner at the Minnesota State Fair for bread baking and as a young girl was an award winner in spelling bees and penmanship competitions. Doris was a loving, caring and kindhearted person. She had a huge sense of humor, loved to call people up on April Fools Day and was a firecracker when needed. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, canning, sewing, berry picking and making jam. But overall her life’s passion was her horses. She raised and trained horses for most of her adult life and was dedicated to hauling her horses to as many horse shows as possible and watching her kids compete. She was a loving and dedicated mother of seven children, 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way. Doris was preceded in death by her daughter Kayla, parents and three brothers: Loren, Roger and Bruce. Doris is survived by her children: Bethel (Mitch) Schermerhorn of Sebeka, DeLora “Lynnie” (Mark) Syljuberget of Bemidji, Elmer “Buck” (Robbin) Chase of Menahga, Darla Odland (Sean) of Park Rapids, Doris “Trinket” (Greg) Schilling of Menahga, and Donald “D.J.” (Stephanie) Sellin of Park Rapids; sister Ardis Krueger and her husband Wayne; grandchildren: Nicholas and Brandon Schermerhorn, Melissa and Kacey Erwin, Tristan Syljuberget, Aaron, Adam and Amber Chase, Shaun Osmundson, Hannah and Briana Feiker. Cody and Corey Odland, Sadie and Gregory Schilling, Dalton, Blake, Derek and Erika (twins) and Kamryn Sellin; great grandchildren: Lexi, Hunter, Alex, Hailey and Syliss; special cousin Sally of Minneapolis. Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Steven A. Bruer will be officiating. Inurnment will be at Shell City Cemetery in the spring. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all those who called her friend and the Riders of the Crow Wing Saddle Club.
