James Lee Gaschler

James Lee Gaschler, age 67, of rural Sebeka, MN passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014 in his home, surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with COPD. Jim was born on June 2, 1947 to Martin and Evelyn (Pfeifer) Gaschler in Brighton, Colorado. Jim graduated from Brighton High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharged from the Navy, he attended Colorado Law Enforcement Training and he worked as an Adams County Deputy Sheriff until his retirement in June, 2001. In December 2000 Jim was united into marriage to Velda Eddy. The following year they settled into retirement in rural Sebeka. Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, intelligent conversation, country music and playing the hammered dulcimer in a polka band. Jim is survived by his wife, Velda of Sebeka, MN; his father, Martin Gaschler of Brighton, Colorado; brothers, Robert (Becky) of Brighton, Colorado; Richard (Patricia) of Westminster, Colorado; Gregory (Angelique of Thornton, Colorado; sister, Mary Hitner (Stan) of Brighton, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Gaschler and brother, Tom. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, in Bluegrass, MN with Farther Arlie Sowada officiating. Mary Beth Brockpahler will service as organist. Danya Yoch will solo “Down to the River to Pray.” Active Casketbearers include Bradley Brockpahler, Jerry Grewing, Duane Benson, Nate Nims, Todd Grotberg, and Brock Grotberg. Honorary Pallbearers are Danya Yoch, Kyle Grimsbo, Emily Grimsbo, Anders Pickar, Casen Pickar, and Tobias Pickar. Berg Nylund American Legion Post #456 of Sebeka, MN will provide Military Honors. Interment services will be held at the West Lyons Cemetery.
