Kelly Marie Lund

Kelly Marie Lund, 32, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 12th, 2014 in her hometown of Menahga, MN. Kelly blessed this earth with her presence on March 17, 1982 in Fridley, MN. She was the middle child of Faye Dawn “Punky” Odland & Curtis Edwin Lund. She & her siblings - Katrice & Edwin were instantly inseparable, spending most of their time outside & getting each other into (and out of) trouble. As a child, Kelly enjoyed showing off her baton twirling skills in the town renowned Blueberry Twirlers & spent countless hours playing Barbies and Ninja Turtles with her best friend, Sara, and her little brother Eddie. While in school, Kelly participated in activities such as volleyball, cheerleading & softball. During these years, she formed lifelong friendships that would last well into adulthood. Kelly found a mentor and motherly role model in her Auntie Lyni, whom she looked up to & remained close with for her entire life. A beautiful soul inside & out, Kelly was awarded both Miss Congeniality & First Princess in the Miss Menahga pageant of 2000. To say that Kelly spent a “great amount of time” with Charilyn Knosalla and her daughter Jessica in her younger years would be an understatement. Kelly graduated Menahga High School with the class of 2000. After graduating high school, Kelly’s motivation & determination assisted her in pursuing degrees in cosmetology, licensed practical nursing & massage therapy. While in school, Kelly gave birth to her first child, Olyvia Lyn Wurst. With the birth of her daughter, Kelly found her purpose in life and immediately fell in love with being a mother. In 2010, Kelly was united in marriage to Romyn Hanks. Kelly and Romyn were blessed with one son, Carter James Hanks, and with his birth their family was complete. Most recently, Kelly began two businesses: Lund Construction & Simply Clean. With her exceptional work ethic & self-drive, both businesses flourished over the last year. Although ever hard-working, Kelly lived her life to the absolute fullest. An outstanding mother, she was often found at home playing & laughing with her two children. Her nieces & nephews were showered with hugs & love at each visit. She was well known for her beautiful singing voice & never missed an opportunity to share that gift with the world. Family-oriented & a nurturer by heart, Kelly enjoyed nothing more than getting together with family and friends. A get-together was not complete without good food, good music, singing and dancing. Kelly will forever be remembered for her vivacious personality, nurturing spirit, contagious laugh, heartwarming hugs & outstanding singing. Kelly will be eternally missed by her two children, Olyvia Lyn Wurst & Carter James Hanks; sister Katrice Lund of Cottage Grove, MN; brother Edwin Lund (Kendra) of Menahga, MN; nephews Aleksander Lund & Ashton Anton; nieces Eden Lund & Aubrey Lund; Aunt Lynette (Bruce) Conmy; Uncles Albert Lund, Timothy (Lynn) Lund, Randy (Shelly) Lund, Chris (Melissa) Lund, Boyke (Kristy) Odland, Gary Odland, Oscar Odland; Grandfather Edwin Lund; lifelong friends Sara (Eric) Makela, Jessica (Dan) Jurva, Katie Lenzen & Natasha Carlson; numerous cousins and countless friends & loved ones. Kelly will be reunited in heaven with her Mother, Faye Dawn “Punky” Odland; her Father, Curtis Edwin Lund; Grandmothers Lila Suvanto & Beverly Lund; Grandfather Linden Odland; Aunts Roxanne Odland & Lila Lund; and Uncles Andy Odland & Bobby Odland. Funeral Services for Kelly Marie Lund will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga and one hour prior to the service at the church.
