Luella Rosalind Heikkinen age 86, of Menahga, MN passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014 in at Tri County Hospital in Wadena surrounded by her loving family. Luella was born on September 14, 1927 in Perham, MN to August and Anna Hinz. She attended school in the Perham area. Luella was united in marriage to Carl R. Heikkinen this union was blessed with eleven children. Luella lived most of her life in Menahga. During her lifetime she worked as a cook starting at Hess’s Café in Menahga and thereafter at various café’s as well as owning Lou’s Café. Luella also worked at Badoura Tree Farm doing seasonal work. Upon retirement Luella enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino, following the Snurdbird Baseball Team and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her eleven children: Joyce Johnson of Menahga; Larry Heikkinen (Linda) of Elk River, MN; Darlene Kinnunen of Richfield, MN; Norleen Kubat (Walt) of Hastings, MN; Richard Heikkinen of Park Rapids; Joanal Knapp (Steve) of Apple Valley, MN; Diane Schilling of Menahga; Lorraine Heikkinen of Menahga; Lonnie Schedin (Bill) of Rosemount, MN; Sharon Etter of Menahga; JoAnn Melby of Wisconsin Dells, WI; nineteen beloved grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother Herbie of Burnsville, MN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; two half-sisters; one half-brother and granddaughter Shawna Rae Kubat. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church Pastor Steven A. Bruer will officiate. Mary Hanninen will serve as organist and soloist. Active urnbearers will be Diane Schilling and Sharon Etter. Honorary urnbearers will be all who enjoyed her cooking over the years and the Snurdbird Baseball Team. A luncheon at the church will follow the service. Private inurnment services will beheld at the Menahga City Cemetery.
