Carl Gust Salo

Carl Gust Salo, beloved father and grandfather and friend to many died Saturday January 11, 2014. He was 87 years old. Born December 18, 1926 he was the youngest of seven siblings. Leo, Lempi Wierimaa, Sylvia Wirkkala, Julia Tschudi-Kako, Hugo, Waino, and Arvo. Born to Charles and Ida Salo. Carl served in the military for 23 years and received many awards, honors, and medals. He spoke Finnish, Swedish, and English and traveled the world, spending many years in Europe. He was an avid gardener and excellent fisherman. He was loved very much by many, and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, his children, Charles Salo (Judi) of Wichita, Kansas, Susan Salo, Carol Zehnder (Rudolph) of Lakewood, Colorado, and Sara Salo of Hopkins. Also, survived by three grandchildren, Jonathan Carl, Lauren and Kate. Also, survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Services are being held at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, Minnesota on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
