Edgar Carl Tappe (Grandpa Tappe), 88, passed away early Monday morning on December 23, 2013 at his home in rural Sebeka. Edgar was born, March 11th, 1925, in Rockwood Township, Sebeka, Minnesota, the son of Otto and Anna (Johnson) Tappe. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended country school until 8th grade. Edgar joined the Army in 1945 and was on his way to Guam when the Armistice was signed with Japan. Edgar was united in marriage to Mary Sidenkrantz, July 28th, 1945. After discharge from the Army, Edgar and Mary farmed in various locations in central Minnesota before they settle down to reside in rural Sebeka, where they raised their family and farmed. Along with farming, Edgar worked as a cheese-maker for over 30 years and then transfer to boiler maintenance until he retired. Edgar was an avid reader, card player, enjoyed fishing in all seasons and was known for driving his pickup truck around the neighborhood in search of wildlife and berries. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edgar is survived by his sons: Burton (Sylvia), Verndale, MN; Robert, Tioga, ND; Gerald (Bonnie), Warroad, MN; Ronald, Modesto, CA; and daughters: DeAnna (Dennis) Krupke, Sebeka, MN; DeLilah, Fargo, ND; DeOla, Sebeka, MN; DeLora, Farmington, MA and DeLynda, Fargo, ND. He is also survived by12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, many cousins and friends. Edgar is preceded in death by his wife Mary, 1 son, 2 daughters, 2 brothers and his parents. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN and one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Raymond Hendrickson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post #6206 of Menahga, MN will provide Military Honors. Inurnment will be at the Wadena Cemetery at a later date.
