Syver "Delroy" Ronning

Syver DelRoy Ronning, age 73, of Menahga, Minnesota died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo North Dakota. Syver DelRoy Ronning was born to Syver A. and Nellie Bell (Hendershot) Ronning on July 28, 1939 in Almora, Minnesota. DelRoy attended Menahga School and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he attended Lincoln Jr. High, then attended Vocational High where he studied Air Plane Mechanics. DelRoy entered the US Army on July 29, 1956 where he spent the next 3 years. DelRoy was stationed at Fort Chaffee in Arkansas, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and Maryland, then to Choriou, Turkey, which is about 90 miles from Istanbul, Turkey. He said he had a wonderful Mediterranean Cruise. DelRoy spent time at the Rock of Gibraltar, Barcelona and Cadiz, Spain; Leghorn and Naples Italy; Lebanon, Tripoli, and also the Leaning tower of Pisa and Athens, Greece. DelRoy was honorable discharged from the Army and returned to Minneapolis to work. DelRoy met Kathryn Petersen in Sebeka, MN and they were married in September 1959. They have been blessed with 53 years together and two children. The first 15 years they lived in Minneapolis where DelRoy worked for Evans Products as Warehouse Manager, and then moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota where he worked for Medallion Kitchens as shipping and receiving manager and started M.K. Trucking Inc. and managed that. In 1983 Medallion Kitchens burned down and they relocated in Waconia, Minnesota. DelRoy started working for the City of Fergus Falls. He also was a member of the Ottertail County Sheriff Posse for many years. DelRoy retired in April of 2003 and they moved to their lake home on Stocking Lake in Menahga, Minnesota. DelRoy and Kathryn spent the winter months in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. DelRoy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where he was active as an Elder, Trustee, Stewardship and a member of the choir. He later became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Menahga where he served as an Elder and was in the choir. DelRoy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathryn (Petersen) Ronning; daughter, Mary Kay Mitlyng and her husband Russ; son, Randy Ronning and his wife Laurie; two brothers, Marland Ronning and his wife Chris and Danny Ronning and his wife Opal; Special nephew, Terry Viekko and his wife Yvonne; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Townsend and her husband Blake, Darcy Kollar, Nathan Ronning and Nicholas Ronning; great granddaughter Zoey Townsend; step grandchildren and great grandchildren Chris and Allison Mitlyng and their children, Ben and Sara Mitlyng and their children and Amanda Mitlyng; many other nieces nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Ronning and one sister, Ilene Blythe. Funeral Services will be held 12 noon on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Menahga with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor John Ramsbacher will officiate. Ruth Ann Kinnunen will serve as organist. Special music will be provided by Ray and Priscilla Alexander, Mary Hanninen, and Lila Marjama. Congregational hymns are “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “How Great Thou Art.” Honorary Pallbearers are Stephanie Kollar Townsend, Darcy Kollar, Nathan Ronning, Nicholas Ronning, Zoey Townsend and other family members. Active Casketbearers are Darwin Stigen, Larry Moske, Russ Rasmussen, Ray Alexander, Bob Hanninen and Sam Kicker. Guy L. McDerment VFW Post #6206 of Menahga, MN will provide Military Honors. Interment will be at the Menahga City Cemetery.
