Louis Dean Hinders

May 26, 1942 — May 18, 2013

Louis "Louie" Dean Hinders, age 70, of Sebeka, MN died Saturday, May 18th, 2013 surrounded by his wife and daughters at Lake Region Healthcare Corporation in Fergus Falls, MN after his brave fight with lymphoma. Louie was a lifelong resident of Sebeka; he was born in Menahga MN on May 26th, 1942 to Christ Louis and Mildred Lucille (Rowe) Hinders. He attended the Sebeka public school. He lived on the Hinders farm two miles west of Sebeka since 1948. He married Annabelle "Annie" (Niemela) on April 18th 1964. He then built the family home from trees native to the farm. The logs were hand loaded onto a wagon and taken to Ted Rick to be sawed into lumber. He and his loving wife Annie and their four girls actively farmed for 40 years, having both dairy and beef cattle. Louie was a man of many talents: carpenter, woodworker, welder and electrician, a jack of all trades. With his carpentry skills, he assisted in the construction of the addition to the Menahga Methodist church and the homes of many friends. With his inherent ingenuity, Louie was able to design and build almost anything needed or something just for fun. He built from scratch his flat bed 5th wheel trailer, a "Chicken Plucker", the "better" fish smoker, luxury deer stands, along with many other items. Even as a busy farmer, he always found time for his hobbies. He enjoyed square dancing, fishing, hunting and most important; to his daughters, spending those summer Sundays at the Crow Wing River, or a local lake with many friends. At retirement in 2000, he purchased a sawmill and focused on his woodworking. Many examples of his fine woodcraft skills, from baby cradles to quilt racks, were donated to raffles and benefits. His well-built kitchen cabinets and entertainment centers are also in many area homes. Louie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His retirement allowed him to finally spend time being Grandpa, not only to his own grandchildren, but to many others, for he was loved as Farmer Grandpa or Grandpa Louie, by countless children. Above everything else, Louie's devotion to his family and friends meant more to him than any possessions or accolades. This can be easily seen in the countless hours that he put in for others, without asking for anything in return. These are the values that will be missed most by those he touched with his kindness and friendship. Louie was an active member in the Sebeka United Methodist Church. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Annie (Niemela) Hinders, daughters, Carol (Kevin) Ricke of Lake Park, MN; Karen (Gary) Booen of St. Cloud, MN; Lois (Alan) Rathcke of Sebeka, MN; Bonnie (Rick) Robarge of Rice, MN; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sister, Marie (David) Bendix and brother, Charlie (Sandy) Hinders, also cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Robert. He will be missed by his puppy Smokey, the first and only dog that got a haircut with money out of Louie's wallet. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN and one hour prior to the service at the Church. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Sebeka United Methodist Church in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Steven Koehne officiating. Jayne Koskiniemi will serve as organist. Special music will be provided by Ray Seibert who will sing. “You Raised Me Up.” Honorary Pallbearers are all of his family and friends Active Casketbearers are Jerry Lake, Eugene Putzke, David Wuollet, Lee Vry, Dave Schermerhorn, Danny Graba, Stan Ament and Darwin Lillquist .
