Arnold Gustav Steinke, age 90, of Verndale, MN passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at the Heritage House of Sebeka the evening of April 17, 2013. Arnold was born June 27, 1922 to Reinhard and Ida (Galow) Steinke. He was born, grew up, and raised a family of his own all in the same home on the family farm located east of Sebeka in North Germany Township. Arnold attended country school through eighth grade and was a farmer all of his life, he also worked ten years at the Staples Box Factory. He was united in marriage on October 20, 1946 to Darlene Lois (Nohrenberg) in a small ceremony in Sebeka. Arnold and Darlene raised five children, Gloria Jean, Carol Ann, Darrell David, Donald Edward, and Jeffrey Allan. They also raised two of their grandchildren, Trevor and Amy, after the death of their daughter, Gloria. Arnold was a very devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. He enjoyed his life on the farm and had many loves, but his biggest passion outside of all of that was for baseball. During baseball season he could always be found talking baseball, listening to baseball, and best of all, watching baseball. Although he admired the Minnesota Twins, he preferred amateur games. He put many miles on his car driving to various baseball events/games played by his sons, grandsons, and also softball games for his granddaughters. Arnold also enjoyed playing a game of cards, fishing and hunting, music, and watching the deer and wildlife on the farm. Arnold was well admired and loved by all his family and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Darlene, his sons Darrell and wife Betty, Donald and wife Maxine, and Jeff and his wife Karie. He also has 12 grandchildren, 15 great-children, and a sister, Hildegard Paurus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard and Ida; his daughters Gloria and Carol; brothers Adolph and Edwin; sister Helena, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be held 5-8pm on Sunday, April 21 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 22 at the United Methodist Church in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Steve Koehne officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Trevor, Darren, Peter, Corey, Adam, Joshua, Jason, and Steven. Honorary Pallbearers are all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
