Philip Eugene Torvinen

June 7, 1954 — April 16, 2013

Philip Eugene Torvinen age 58, of Menahga, MN died Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Philip was born to Phillip “Orman” and Elaine Marcella Torvinen on June 7, 1954. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Philip was the Godfather of his niece Betsy Meyer. Philip completed his schooling in Menahga and started work at a young age, until the pain from various injuries forced him to retire. Philip worked a variety of jobs, but his favorite was working for Hayes Brothers, where he sandblasted and painted big gas and propane storage tanks in the southern states. He enjoyed seeing a lot of the country; his favorite state was North Carolina. He often talked of its beauty and how he would like to live there. Philip was always there to lend a helping hand and expected nothing in return. He loved to go on road cruises, he went through many vehicles! He also loved camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards and board games. Philip enjoyed cooking and you knew if you showed up on a Sunday afternoon you would be served a delicious meal. He loved his nieces and nephews immensely and took great pleasure in spoiling them. He had a special drawer for them filled with treats including Oreos, Cheetos, and candy bars. He also had special nicknames for all of them and he would take them fishing and for them it was a big deal and they formed a special bond with their uncle Philp. Philip really appreciated what everyone did for him although he rarely vocalized it. Philip was a man of few words. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Philip is survived by his sisters: Connie (Tucker) Wynn, Ann (David) Schultz, Shirley Torvinen, Mary (Tim) Haapala, Lori (Jeff) Toppari, Donna (Russell) Hall and one brother, Terry (Lola) Torvinen, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, Sheila Hanninen and Steven Mattila and niece Marci Karjala. We love you Philip, be at peace you are not in pain anymore. Memorial Services and inurnment will be held 11:00 AM May 4, 2013 at Jim Cook Cemetery. Luncheon will be served at the Menahga V.F.W. at 12:00 PM.
