James Morris Quaschnick, age 81, of Sebeka, MN died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Fergus Falls Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN. Jim was born to Robert and Janet (Bergsten) Quasnick on July 19, 1931 in Pollock, South Dakota. After completing his education he enlisted into the military. Jim was united in marriage to Helen Young on August 23, 1958 at the Nimrod Lutheran Church. Jim spent 20 years in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He was stationed at McGuire AFB, New Jersey; Duluth AFB, Minnesota; Clark AFB, Philippines; Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada; DaNang AFB Vietnam; and Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota. Following his honorable discharge in 1973, Jim, Helen and their four children moved back to Sebeka, upon his return, he spent 29 years as a mechanic and driver for the Sebeka School district. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, curling, watching TV, farming with his son and maintaining his yard. He was a member of the Berg Nylund American Legion Post #456 of Sebeka, Masonic Lodge and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Sadly, Jim suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past few years of his life. He will be remembered for his warm and pleasing smile. Jim is survived by Helen Quaschnick his wife of 54 years; his children, Joni (Calvin) Redetzke of Sebeka; Janelle (Jim) Brockpahler of Sebeka; Jillayn Quaschnick of Minneapolis, MN; and Scott (Monica) Quaschnick of Sebeka; one sister, Merlin Miller of Maplewood, MN; brother, Clarence Quasnick of Sebeka; one brother-in-law, Bernie Young of Silver Bay, MN; six grandchildren Shelby Brockpahler, Jay Brockpahler, Jordan Brockpahler, Reid Redetzke, Logan Redetzke, Mandy Quaschnick and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Janet Quaschnick and brothers, Arthur Quaschnick and Rob Quaschnick. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sebeka, with Rachel Stout officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Marge Kinnunen will serve as organist and accompanist. Special music will include “I Can Only Imagine” soloed by Mark Fulfs and “Borning Cry” sung by the Church Choir. Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden.” Berg Nylund American Legion Post #456 of Sebeka will provide Military Honors and will also serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Inurnment will be at Sebeka West Cemetery at a later date.
