Leland Leroy Schumaker age 88, of rural Menahga, MN passed away on Monday, August 6th, 2012 at the V.A. Hospital in Fargo, ND. Lee was born to Frederick and Nellie (Fischer) Schumacher at the Wadena Hospital in Wadena, MN on June 10th 1924. He graduated from Wadena High School in 1942 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving in the Pacific Islands and Okinawa. After the war he bought land on Boulder Lake North of Dorset and opened a family resort operated until 1956. Lee married Ethel Hughes from Park Rapids in 1949 and they were blessed with 3 children Lynette, Leighanne and David. Trees and beautifying the landscape were his passion and in 1949 Lee opened a wholesale Christmas tree Farm operating it with his son Dave until 2000. He also helped, Dave run a landscaping construction service and garden store operation. His last project was the building of a new campground and RV Park on the home farm between Menahga and Sebeka. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nellie Schumacher, brother, Howard (Virginia) Schumaker, sister, Elaine (Jack) Daniels and daughter, Leighanne Schumaker. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, daughter, Lyn, son, Dave and grandchildren, Meryl and Nate. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Steven A. Bruer will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a Later Date.
