Maxine Lyla Brasel age 84 of Sebeka, MN died at Tri County Hospital in Wadena, MN. Maxine was born to Joseph and Esther (Johnson) Crabb at home in Aldrich, MN on January 6, 1928. She was raised on a farm and went to school in the Aldrich area. Maxine got her first job at a cannery. She then went to Oregon to work and live with her two sisters. Her mother called and told her Alvin was coming home from the Service she rushed home. Maxine heard there was a dance in Bluffton and she knew he would be there, the rest is history. Maxine and Alvin Brasel were united in marriage on August 6, 1947 and they made their home in the Wadena area all of their lives. Maxine held many jobs she worked as a waitress, cook and seamstress as well as helping her uncles on the farm. She was a fantastic cook and she was well known for her great potato salad, caramel rolls and pies. Maxine and Alvin owned and operated their own dinner (better know as the Greasy Spoon) in Sebeka for eleven years. She then retired and fixed Alvin’s lunch for the Mail Route everyday and made dinner at the house for anyone that needed a dinner. Maxine was an Active member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Maxine and Alvin enjoyed being on a bowling teem for many years. If there was a dance in the area you would find them there and after the dance they opened the Greasy Spoon to feed everyone. Maxine is survived by her seven children: Wayne (Jan); Sherry Erickson (Mike); Alice (Joel) Rising, Ronnie (Renee); Shirley (Jim) Huntington; Joyce Tappe; Joe (RaNae); twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby (Warren) Barnts and Dorothy (Ralph) Schwartz; one brother, Jim (Betty) Crabb; two sisters-in-law Beulah Crabb and Laura Waln and many foster children other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death is her husband of 64 years, Alvin Brasel and two sons-in-law Leslie Erickson and Albert Tappe, her parents, Joe and Ester Crabb, one brother, Joraine Crabb and one sister, Verna Yackamovich. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 24, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, MN with Pastor Stephen Meltzer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are the Staff and Residents of Heritage House of Sebeka. Active Casketbearers include Greg Erickson, Wayne Carpenter, Larry Huntington, Donald Lillquist, Harold Lillquist, and John Poland Jr. Interment will be at Wadena Cemetery.
