Doris Darlene (Nelson) Juntunen

Doris Darlene (nee Nelson) Juntunen, age 79, passed away on May 15, 2012 at her home in rural Sebeka, Minnesota after a courageous battle with cancer. Doris Nelson was born on January 24, 1933 to Irvin and Beatrice (nee Farr) Nelson. She attended District 216 country school for 8 years and then was bussed to Sebeka Public School. She married Walter Eino Roiko on April 2, 1949. They farmed with Walter's mother, Olga Roiko for 3 years. They then moved to Williston, North Dakota in 1953 and later to Tioga, North Dakota. In 1955 they moved to Glendive, Montana where Wally was employed by Dowell Incorporated. Six children were born to this union, William, Joanne, Daniel, Cheryl (who died in infancy), Richard and David. On June 20, 1962, Wally and Danny were tragically killed in a car accident in Montana. Doris moved her family back to Sebeka to be near her relatives. Doris was united in marriage to Robert Edward Juntunen on November 16, 1963. They lived on the Roiko family homestead and raised hogs, milked cows until 1970 and then raised beef cattle. Bob and Doris always had a big vegetable garden, grew strawberries and raspberries and maintained a huge lawn and beautiful flower beds. They enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris worked for 3 years at the Bedora Nursery. She began working at Homecrest Industries in November 1977 and retired in 2004. Doris enjoyed visiting with family and friends in person or on the phone. She was known for her delicious cooking and baked goodies. A meal at Doris' table was always a treat. She was an active member of the Blowers Chapel. Doris is survived by her children: William (Linda), Joanne (Jim) Derby, Richard (JoAnne) and David (Debbie). Her grandchildren: Terri (Kyle) Arenkiel, Troy (Yuki) Derby, Tracy (Todd) King, Tara (Greg) Sniezek, Nicole (Barry) Novitzki, Ryan (Angela) Roiko, Danny (Judy) Jessen, Latonya (Matt) Dillon, and Lacey (Matt) Erickson, and her 30 great-grandchildren. Sisters: Marjorie (Melvin) Schwartz, June (Dennis) Schmitz, Sharon (Roy) Huotari-Hemphill, and Linda (Marty) Covert. Doris was preceded in death by: her parents, first husband, Walter Roiko, her daughter Cheryl and son Daniel Roiko, her second husband, Robert Juntunen, and her brother, Kenneth Nelson. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Blowers Chapel rural Sebeka, MN with Pastor Bill Loge officiating. Jennifer Johnston will serve as Pianist. Special Music will be provided by Alvina Kytta and Lee Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers are Matt Erickson, Travis Lollar, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Active Casketbearers include Greg Sniezek, Kyle Arenkiel, Ryan Roiko, Dan Jessen, Barry Novitzki and Matt Dillon. Interment will be at Sebeka West Cemetery.
