Myron George Sidlo

Myron G. Sidlo age 91, of Menahga, MN died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. Myron was born to Charles and Irma (Kraft) Sidlo on September 14, 1920 in Menahga, where he was raised and graduated from Menahga High School in 1938. He continued his education at Hanson’s school for Auto Mechanics in Fargo North Dakota upon completion he came to Sebeka to work at Ed Kela’s Ford Garage until 1942 when he was drafted into the United States Army. On one of his leaves he married Ardella Matta on June 6, 1944. Soon after his unit was assigned to the Pacific, which meant he’d be going into combat, where he spent a year and a half. He was honorable discharged on January 31, 1946. He returned to his job at the Ford Garage for a short time. He then became the Clerk at the Sebeka Post Office; later becoming the Postmaster for 33 years. After retiring he spent most of his days at the cabin on Blueberry Lake doing some fishing taking his daily walks and just enjoying nature. Camping became his life where he visited state parks. Itasca being his favorite. Myron had a knack of using any left over material, wood or piece of pipe etc to make bird feeders and plant hangers. He was a staunch lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church for many years, after which his love of nature became his worship. Myron is survived by his wife Ardella Sidlo son Ronald (Kathryn) Sidlo daughter Anita (Tim) Petersen, three grandsons, Christopher Sidlo, Zane (Heather) Petersen and Adam Petersen; granddaughter, Cali Petersen (Brandon Bohne); great grandchildren Bryant Scannell, Sebastian Petersen, Alyssa Petersen and Brooklyn Bohne; two sisters Arlene Anttila and Joyce (Roland) Aho and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lucille and Beverly. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed. He was a special Uncle to Dan, Don, Sandy, Stephanie and families. His friends at the lake Mark and Brenda Dressen, Bob and Bridget Karg and Bobbi, Ron and Gaye Maertens, Eleanor and Harold LaCroix, Jerry and Lyle Heldt, George and Ruth Bastyr, Baarstads, Frentress and the beloved Justin Huotari family who became a close second family and many others Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Wevley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Raymond Hendrickson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are all who called him friend. Active Casketbearers are Zane Petersen, Christopher Sidlo, Adam Petersen and Cali Petersen. Berg Nylund American Legion Post #456 will provide Military Honors. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery in rural Sebeka.
