Amber Marian Bengtson, age 92, of Sebeka, MN died February 11, 2012 at the Northfield Care Center in Northfield, MN. She was working to rehab from a fall and broken hip on January 13, 2012. Amber was born an only child to Carl and Ida (Moses) Gustafson on January 16, 1920. She married Melvin Clarence Bengtson on December 18, 1939 in Sebeka. Amber and Melvin were blessed with four children, Melvin, Douglas, Constance, and Christine. They farmed until 1969 when Melvin passed away. After his death, Amber worked as a checkout clerk and later as a bookkeeper. She retired at age 65, went back to work at 68 and later retired again in 1991 at age 71. Throughout the years Amber enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with friends. She also was involved in 4-H leadership, Homemakers and TOPS club. She also was an accomplished seamstress. Amber's message is: have faith, learn to be content with whatever you have and take time to enjoy the beauty of life and the blessings you have every day. Happiness comes from within and not from the material things of life and treat others as you wish to be treated. Amber is survived by her son Douglas Bengtson and his wife Kathy of Northfield, MN; two daughters, Constance (Connie) Smith and her husband Charley of Portland, OR; and Christine Bernstetter and her husband Joe of St. Joseph, MN; daughter-in-law Shirley Bengtson of Rosemount, MN; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin and son Melvin Chester Bengtson in August of 2011. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 5 - 8 PM at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Rachel Stout officiating. Jodi Carley will serve as pianist. Active Casketbearers will be Hokan Bengtson, Hans Bengtson, Aaron Bernstetter, Andrew Bernstetter, Mike Bengtson and Steve Beckey. Interment will be at the Hay Creek Cemetery.
