John Leonard Janson passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo North Dakota due to complications from a massive stroke. He was 82 years old. Leonard was born to John Hjalmer and Dagmar (Kangas) Janson in Sugarbush Township of Becker County on April 4, 1929. He graduated from Waubun High School. Leonard and Beatrice Mattie were married by Jacob Erkilla on June 30, 1951 at the home of her parents in rural Wadena. Born to this union were three sons: Dale (Marcy) of rural Wadena, Darrel (Nettie) of Wadena and Douglas (Bill Malluege) of Minneapolis. They farmed for four years on the Janson farm in Becker County and then in 1955 purchased Beatrice’s family farm in rural Wadena. Leonard is survived by Beatrice, three sons and their families which include eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three brothers: Donald (Gerry) of Minneapolis; Edwin (Greta) of Lewiston, Idaho; Raymond (Gloria) of Negaunee, Michigan and five sisters: Elsie (John) Bakken of Detroit Lakes; Edna Tuominen of Minneapolis; Eleanor (Cliff) Junes of Minneapolis; Kay (Lawrence) Mattson of Negaunee, Michigan; Luella (Pete) Linden of Rochert. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Elmer and Arvid; and three sisters Alma Johnson, Linda Seppanen and Delores Hokkanen; and a host of brothers and sisters in faith. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka and one hour prior to the service at the Church. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Menahga Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church with Jim Liubakka officiating. Active Casketbearers include Harvey Seppanen, Bruce Salmela, John Janson, Wayne Junes, Wade Janson and Brian Tuominen. Honorary Pallbearers include Bruce Junes, Bill Malluege, Nathan Janson and Daniel Janson. Interment will be held at Hay Creek Cemetery rural Sebeka.
