Louis Stanley Rasmusson

February 26, 1928 — September 28, 2011

Louis S. Rasmusson was born in Kenyon, Minnesota February 26, 1928 to Lewis and Grace Rasmusson. He passed away September 28, 2011 at Fair Oaks Lodge, in Wadena. He graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1945, and worked various jobs until entering the Army in 1950. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was wounded twice in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a 32 year member of the Berg-Nylund American Legion. After his service time he bought and ran his own restaurant in his home town of Wanamingo. In 1956, he began working for Reserve Mining in Babbitt. In 1966, he married Gaylene Schoon of Sebeka and 3 children were born to them. They moved to Sebeka in 1978 where he worked various jobs including at Tri County Hospital. He loved working there and he made many wonderful friends with the employees there. He retired in 2008 due to his health problems. He brought laughter and sunshine into the hearts of many and will be sadly missed by his friends and family. Louie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gaylene, 2 sons, Bernie and Ken, one daughter, Sissy, 2 favorite daughters-in-law, Becky and Jen, 1 son-in-law Butch Feela, and 13 grandchildren who were his pride and joy - Jacob, Simon, Halen, Jeanna, Maddie, Carly, Katrina, Sam, Jack, Brody, Louie, Jeff, and Jenae. He is also survived by many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters, and his parents. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Sebeka United Methodist Church with Pastor Steven A. Bruer officiating. Judy Davis will serve as organist. Chelsea Anderson will solo “In the Garden.” Congregational hymns include “Softly and Tenderly,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” Honorary Pallbearers are all of his thirteen grandchildren. Berg Nylund American Legion Post #456 of Sebeka, MN and The Minnesota National Guard Military Veterans Team will provide Military Honors. Inurnment will be at Green Hill Cemetery at a later date.
