Mathilda Mary Walimaa

Mathilda Mary Walimaa age 81 of Sebeka, MN died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, MN. Mathilda Mary (Braith) Walimaa was born on December 30, 1929 in Leaf River Township, Wadena County, to John and Martha (Bushinger) Braith. Mathilda attended Leaf River Township School District 11 until the eighth grade. Mathilda had twelve siblings, seven brothers and five sisters. Growing up Mathilda helped her parents on the family farm. She enjoyed visiting with her brothers and sisters, watching her nieces and nephews and swimming. She met Wesley Edward Walimaa on January 12, 1947 at a wedding dance at west hall outside of Sebeka. They dated for 2 years and were married October 6, 1949 at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church. Wesley and Mathilda lived in the Sebeka, Wadena area and settled in Sebeka in 1972 where Mathilda remained until her passing. Mathilda was a homemaker most of her life. She had a love for her family that was always accepting and never ending. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, baking, attending dances and visiting with friends and family. She is survived by five daughters; Rose (Ray) Longfors, Margie Makela, Shari (John) Snyder, Marlene (John) DeSerisy and Ginny (Dale) Haman; fifteen Grandchildren, thirty-one Great Grandchildren, one sister, Agnes Kaufman and a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Wesley, son Edward, one Granddaughter Leilani, one Great Grandson Brandon, her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Prayer Service will be at 6:30 PM and Holy Rosary will be at 7:30 PM at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga, MN with Father Arlie Sowada as Celebrant. Ione Ellingson will serve as organist. Robyn Snyder will solo “On Eagles Wings. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sons-in-law, Ray Longfors, John Snyder, John DeSerisy, and Dale Haman. Gift Bearers will be Granddaughters Laura Uselman, Jacinta Roth, Heather Haman, and Abigail Haman. Servers will be William Snyder and Blaine Snyder. Active Casketbearers will be Grandsons, Jon Snyder, Clint Snyder, Joel Snyder, David Snyder, Adam Makela, Jeremy Makela, Shane Plautz, Stefan DeSerisy, Zachary Haman and Mitchel Haman. Interment will be at Paddock Bethany Cemetery in Rural Sebeka.
