Fern Marie Jacobson

Fern Marie Jacobson, 85, of Perham, Minnesota, died Saturday, August 20, 2011, at her home at Autumn Manor in Perham. Fern was born on January 12, 1926, in Spruce Grove Township, Minnesota, to Anton and Ellen (Holecek) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Fern attended school at Butler Country School in Minnesota through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Allen Jacobson on September 27, 1945, at Evergreen Church in Evergreen, Minnesota. To this union, one daughter was born: Gayle (Jacobson) Avery. Fern was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Fern worked for the United States Postal Service in Wolf Lake, Minnesota, for many years. She also worked at the Wolf Lake Creamery, Jenny’s Store, and a café in Wolf Lake. She was also involved in the community, as the treasurer for the city, a lifetime member of the Wolf Lake VFW Auxiliary, and an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake. Fern’s favorite pastimes were going to garage sales, visiting local dollar stores, shopping at community thrift stores, visiting friends, eating pie and coffee, and always enjoying a casino-hopping excursion. Fern cherished her family. Fern is survived by a son-in-law, Keith Avery of Fergus Falls, MN; a sister, Rosella Mickelson of Frazee, MN; and a sister-in-law, Anita Johnson of Frazee, MN. She is survived by three grandchildren: Jason (Nicole) Avery of Clarkrange, TN; Angela Avery of Kendall, WI; and Jacob (Kristin) Avery of Irvine, CA. She is survived by six great grandchildren: Katy Avery; Hannah Lustila; Abigail Lustila; Derek Lustila; Gabriel Avery; and Nicholas Avery. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, two sisters (Elaine and Margaret), and two brothers (Philip and Norm). Funeral Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Wolf Lake, MN, on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Active Casketbearers will be Fern’s nephews: Dan Isola (godson), Anthony Isola, Greg Mickelson, Brian Mickelson, Terry Johnson, Tim (George) Johnson, and Ronald Jacobson. Jill (Mickelson) Rader, Fern’s niece and goddaughter, will serve as an Honorary Casketbearer. Interment will be made in the Wolf Lake Cemetery.
