Marie Elsa Walter

Marie Elsa Priebe Walter peacefully went to be in the arms of Jesus, Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Tri County Hospital, Wadena, MN. Marie was born March 28, 1913 to Gustav and Pauline Priebe in North Germany Township and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Marie attended District 49 through 8th grade. Marie was united in marriage to Harold (Snaps) Walter January 29, 1934. Marie and Snaps were employed at the Sebeka Public School as custodians all their married life. Marie retired in 1977 and was honored in the annual that year by the class of 1977. Marie worked for Johnson and Son Well drilling for 11 years. Marie enjoyed baking and serving coffee for the guys. She always said working for Doug and Rex Johnson were the best years of her life. Marie learned to knit from Rae Hauck and enjoyed making afghans, sweaters, slippers, and dishcloths. Marie always had the coffee pot on and baked goods in the cupboard for former Sebeka graduates and neighbors. Marie belonged to a bridge club and a 500 club. Many hours were spent playing cards. Marie was very happy when the cards came her way and she was high. Skip-Bo became the new bridge when the company could not play bridge. Marie is preceded in death by her husband Snaps in 1973, sister Esther Horan, brothers, Bill and Edgar, and grandson Scott, son of Merlyn and Bev. Marie is survived by sons, Merlyn (Beverly), Tulsa, OK and Ike (Joan) New Prague, MN and daughter, Donna Sebeka, 2 granddaughters, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM with visitation at the church 2 hours prior to the service. Reverend Mark Hesse and Reverend Ray Hendrickson will be officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Rex and Becky Johnson, Austin Johnson, Joe and Carol Swentek, Mavis Schmitz and family, Larry and Dee Siegel, and Lenny and Linda Anderson. Active Casketbearers are Mike Horan, Kenny Priebe, Howard Priebe, Theron Walter, Trevor Walter, and Trent Walter. Organist will be Donna Schave Bolf of Duluth longtime neighbor and classmate of Donna. Interment will be in the Sebeka West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Sebeka Fire and Rescue Squad.
