Philip (Phil) Kangas age 54 of Laporte, MN formerly of Menahga, MN died at Essentia Health in Fargo ND, on January 13, 2011. Philip was born to Herbert and Norma (Maunu) Kangas on February 25, 1956 in Park Rapids, MN. He graduated from Menahga High School in 1974. Philip owned and operated Leech Lake Bait Business in Walker, MN for 20 years. He was united in marriage to AnnaMarie (Boike) in August of 1997. Philip sold his bait business in 1997. He worked at the Laporte High School for a few years. In 2000 Philip worked at Potlatch Corporation until 2005 where he then worked at North Central Door in Bemidji, MN for several years. Philip loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved the outdoors and the family pet Goldie. Philips faith and love for the Lord grew through his life long membership of Christ Gospel Church in Laporte. Philip is survived by his wife Ann Kangas and four children, Crystal Winter and her husband Tony of Bemidji, MN, Willaim R. Hecker IV of Duluth, MN, Philip Herbert Kangas and Michelle Ann Kangas both of Laporte, MN; His sisters Carolyn Jones and her husband Roger of Burnsville, MN, Elizabeth Kajita and her husband Richard of Kent Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday January 19, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Laporte Baptist Church in Laporte, MN with visitation 2 hours prior to the service at the church, with Pastor Rick Clyde officiating. Ken Hagar will serve as pianist. Tuesday Hagar will sing “How Great thou Art”. “What a day that will be”, will be sung by Rick and Sherry Clyde. Congregational hymn will be “I’ll fly away”. Active casket bearers will be William Hecker IV, James Kangas, Robert Kangas, Jonathon Kangas, Kevin Hjermstad, John Lloyd, Reggie Thiel, and Philip Herbert Kangas. Honorary Pallbearers are all who called him friend. Interment will be at the Menahga City Cemetery.
